“Mom, I want to go to heaven!” my three-year-old daughter complained from the backseat of our car while driving home from a lengthy shopping outing.
She was tired and clearly unhappy with her present situation.
For a moment, I was speechless.
“Sometimes I do too,” I replied, with thoughts of the sadness and scariness of our present world swirling through my mind, “but God wants us here right now, otherwise we wouldn’t be here. Our job is to live His way and obey Him on earth today.”
“And I’ll have a NEW DRESS in heaven!” she proceeded, not paying my response a lick of attention.
The cuteness and deeper-truth of her statement struck me.
“Yes you will,” I smiled.
And truly, we so much to celebrate in our future salvation.
But we must also remember that our new life, our new dress, is ours today and for eternity.
So, if life is weary for you, or if you find yourself unhappy with your present situation, take heart!
For “God our Savior showed us His great kindness and love… He washed away our sin and gave us new life through the Holy Spirit… And now we know that we will inherit eternal life.” Titus 3:4-7 (NLT)
Raise your view from the troubles of this life and know that the day when your salvation will be fulfilled is fast approaching– the day you will be clothed with a heavenly, glorious, immortal body and with robes of righteousness and a crown of salvation.
When life seems difficult, take a lesson from an unsuspecting three-year-old,
“Set your heart on the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.” (Colossians 3:2-4)
Pay attention to His Spirit in you. Understand the eternal impact of today.
Don’t waste an opportunity to love, live wisely, choose purity, do good, work hard, bring honor to God, and advance His kingdom today– knowing that we are working for something greater: eternal rewards that will far outweigh any trouble or inconvenience.
For the same truth that gives you confidence of eternal life will also show you how to live godly lives.
What does it mean for you to cling to the hope of heaven today?
