the gospel

Have you ever taken the time to reflect on death? Or on reality (the time and space to which we’re confined)? Have you ever tried to make sense of it all? Or to understand why or how we’re here and conscious?…if so, the process likely makes your head spin. Or you feel small and out of control. Or empty.

Ecclesiastes 7:4, “A wise person thinks much about death, while the fool thinks only about having a good time now.”

That’s where the good news comes in. You see, there is a God behind all of this. It does make sense. There is a purpose. There is a glorious, eternal life available to all who will humble themselves and seek Him. And in His grace, God has explained this to us through His inspired word: The Bible.

Do you want abundant life now and forever? Are you willing to humble yourself and lay down your life to attain it? If so, read on.

The Bible says that God created this world, and it was good. He created people, and they were very good. But through Satan’s tempting, and man’s tragic choice, sin entered the world. Hence what we know today: God’s beautiful, glorious creation, marred by the unleashing of sin and death.

Everyone has sinned. Me. You. In fact we were born that way. No one is perfect nor ever could be except for God Himself. Because of God’s inexpressible holiness, now an impassible rift exists between God and the people He loves.

Enter Jesus. Jesus was God in flesh. Fully human, yet fully God. Part of God, yet a separate person –The Son. He came, taught us God’s ways, and ultimately died as a sacrifice in our place. He took on our sins and bore a punishment that only He could fully satisfy. He was the perfect lamb, foretold through the Jewish law, prophecies, and ancient customs of animal sacrifice.

And what’s more, Jesus rose from the dead. He defeated death on behalf of those He calls His own. What a glorious, marvelous, wonderful day!

That’s the gospel. That’s the good news we broadcast to the world.

Do you want to receive this abundant and eternal life? More good news:

Romans 10:13, “All who call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

So, pray. Call on Jesus. Humble yourself, admitting your sinfulness to Him and acknowledging a desperation for His forgiveness and salvation. Buy a Bible. Start by reading the Book of John. Turn away from the sin in your life. Find a church. Read the Bible some more, daily even, so you will firmly grasp its deep truths. The Holy Spirit will indwell you and minister to you and teach you all you need to live out this NEW LIFE. He is faithful. He longs for your affection and allegiance.
