How I’m Learning to Embrace and Enhance My Natural Beauty: A Dressing Your Truth® Review

How I'm Learning to Embrace and Enhance My Natural Beauty

I first heard about the Dressing Your Truth® online course when my friend Jami Balmet posted about it on her blog earlier this year. I am not innately good at dressing myself, and what little I have learned over the past few years has helped me SO MUCH in the process of establishing a minimal, effective wardrobe.

So, I was instantly interested in it.

I decided to start with their Free Energy Profiling video series to see what it was all about. In this course, Carol Tuttle boils the natural world and human nature down to four main types of energy. She contends that a person primarily exemplifies one of these four types of energy, which is also your Type of Beauty.

Free Energy Profiling Course

This free video course is sort of like a new take on a personality inventory. However, it claims to go farther by taking a person’s complete nature and underlying energy-type into consideration.

On the negative side, some of the phrasing and tone in the video series felt a little off from what I believe spiritually (as a Christian). Nature is assigned different types of energy, and yin and yang are used to exemplify the energy-types, which I didn’t love. Other than that it was interesting and fun.

In this Free Energy Profiling course, Carol explains the four energies in terms of nature, shape, movement, personality, behavior, skills, and even exact facial features!

I identified most with TYPE 2, and I was even more astounded by how well the description of a TYPE 4 fit my husband!

The crazy part was, we also fit our respective Types, right down to our facial features! That amazed me, because we had already made up our minds before hearing this part, and obviously you can’t influence physical realities with the power of suggestion.

I am fascinated by inventories of all kinds that help me understand myself better. Don’t ask me why, it just fascinates me, whether a personality inventory, love languages, motivational style, leadership style, strengths finder or energy type.

If you’re interested, you can get instant access to this Free Energy Profiling video series HERE.

I really enjoyed it overall, and I have thought about it a lot. It did help me reflect on and consider how God has made me.

Dressing Your Truth Online Course

In addition to the free course to help you determine your Type of Beauty (energy), Carol Tuttle also sells a course called Dressing Your Truth. This courses will teach you how to dress and style yourself according to your Type of Beauty, as defined by her system.

As I said above, I love learning about how to dress myself! The few things I’ve learned or been able to discern myself (which is tough for me) in the past have helped me to:

  • be far more effective in my shopping
  • hone a minimal wardrobe that I love
  • feel significantly more beautiful and confident overall

We are not all meant to dress and style ourselves the same way!

I have found this saves me from purchasing and wearing things that will not ultimately be right for me. I’m not great at discerning if I simply like the garment itself, or if it truly becomes me.

So, I did what any self-respecting blogger would do, I emailed them and asked if I could take the course for free in exchange for a review on my blog! 🙂 [I’m NOT bragging. I’m required to disclose that!]

I really enjoyed the course! It actually affirmed a lot of what I was slowly beginning to realize about myself.

Not only did the course cover what clothes to wear, but also jewelry (including diamond wedding bands for women), glasses, scarves, hairstyles, makeup, and more! However if you need Prescription Glasses, here are tortoise shell glasses which are always in style – and it’s easy to wear, and you can order online. Just visit their website at https://glassesspecsdirect.co.uk/! They come with their warm colors and attractive texture, these can be worn with so many different outfits and look both classic and modern! Some of those things I had no basis for how to evaluate, so I learned a lot!

I never quite understood why I didn’t feel good wearing certain things that are very cute in and of themselves, and now I do! This course gave me a more solidified concept of what to wear.

Even though many of the things I learned were consistent with the generalized direction I was heading, I now have a firm grasp on why.

There are some things I learned that I will certainly adapt, but overall I felt it was highly valuable and insightful. This course took what I already knew about styling myself and took it farther, making additional connections and explaining underlying reasons!

A bit of what I gained from the course (without scooping it too much).

1. It Solidified What I Already Knew

There were quite a few things I heard in this course that I already knew about myself.

A few of the things I already knew I should wear that were confirmed by the course (as a TYPE 2) were:

Those are things you will see in my closet, for sure. But taking the course solidified those dawning realizations and gave me the confidence to really stick to them!

It made sense of much of what i was already feeling, which was quite helpful for someone who’s not incredibly in-tune with herself.

I also liked that the course encouraged me to embrace and enhance my natural look, such as my wavy hair. I’ve often thought this was just an unhappy middle (not straight, not curly). According to Dressing Your Truth, this is part of my beauty and a good look for me, which makes a lot of sense to me.

2. It Gave Me the Words to Express My Style

Although many of the style concepts in the TYPE 2 Dressing Your Truth Course were things I was already gravitating towards naturally, but I didn’t have the vocabulary to express and, really even understand, my style.

Because Dressing Your Truth put words around the concepts, I am now able to communicate better with Stitch Fix, my go-to for high-quality, low-fuss shopping in this crazy season of life.

3. It Introduced New Ideas to Consider

Besides affirming and solidifying what I already knew, the course also spoke into areas in which I had no basis for making decisions, such as with glasses and haircuts.

It gave me some new concepts to explore, such as flowing, tear drop shapes, ruffles, and high-low skirts.

It also pushed me to consider new ideas in a few areas. For example, my Type of Beauty should not wear black according to Dressing Your Truth. I like to wear black, so I’m not sure if I’m going to get on board with that, but it did give me something new to think about!

4. It Provided Concrete Criteria for Evaluating Clothes and Accessories

I love paring down my closet to just the things that I love wearing and that look the best on me, and then wearing these clothes often. It’s actually a great way to live and this process helps define a style.

Dressing Your Truth not only gave me permission to re-asses my closet, but it also gave me exact criteria for getting rid of things that weren’t right for me. I have purged through my closet with renewed direction once more after completing this course!

The things that didn’t suit me very well suddenly stood out to me like a sore thumb. It’s safe to say these were not my favorite or best wardrobe pieces to begin with, and while I knew that, I just had a hard time putting my finger on why.

There are some things from the course that I will adapt or ignore, but for the most part it was very interesting and gave me a lot to think about!

I hope this will help me be more effective, targeted and cohesive with my shopping and overall style.

Because this course normally sells for $249, (which, woah, that’s a lot), I emailed them to see if they’d be willing to do a special deal for my readers. They responded that the lowest price the course ever goes on sale for is $99, and then only 4x per year. They were willing to give me a special link through which you can purchase the course at that price right now!

You must click THIS LINK to get Dressing Your Truth for Just $99!

Hmm… you look (and write!) like a type 1, in my opinion. 🙂

    • Jen says:

Check out 16:50 for someone with a similar look: my.liveyourtruth.com/dyt/face-profiling-101/.

    • Oooo, interesting! I know I definitely have some type 1 in me. I was thinking that maybe I’m a Type 2-1, but maybe I’m a Type 1-2. That’s some good food for thought though. Thanks for the input!

    • Jen says:

I was just noticing you use the word “fun” a lot, and there are more than 30 exclamation points on this page (very type 1). You have type 1 earrings in your avatar that look great on you, and the best type 2 outfits on you are actually pretty good for type 1 (animation, movement, brighter color). You seem a little lost in the gray. You have a definite cuteness as well.

Don’t take the word of a stranger on the internet, though! You know your own energy best.

    • Jen says:

Oh, one more thing: type 1 women married to type 4 men is one of the most common energy pairings, for some reason.

    • Oh wow!! Thank you so much for your input! I definitely noticed I like the brightest possible of the type 2 colors! I think I’m somewhere in between 1 and 2, because I can’t wear bold, disconnected prints, like one of my type 1 friends, but I definitely do use a lot of exclamation points, lol! Thank you for your help! I will pay attention to that!

    • Jen says:

That makes sense that you wouldn’t like to go too bold if you’re a 1-2 or 2-1. Those are the lightest and softest energy types.

Bold usually means type 4 or type 3 energy. Your friend probably has one of those as a secondary.

I took the course last year and really liked it a lot. To me, your reason #4 is my favorite – I find it way easier to go shopping because I know what to automatically rule out. I also find it helps me financially because I am able to more easily shop at thrift shops or Thred Up because I can easily and quickly weed through the stuff that’s not my type to find the stuff that is my type (I am type 4).

    • That is awesome! I am just starting to play around with their guidelines in my shopping. I’m really excited! It’s honestly amazing to me how out-of-touch I am with what looks best on me. I know it when I’m told, but I can’t come up with it on my own, lol!
