Quick Update on Our Family

Written by

Maybe you’ve noticed, probably you haven’t, but I’ve been a little quiet these past several weeks.

Sure I’ve been keeping up with the blog in a minimal sort of way. Publishing new posts here and there (all of them from a store written months ago). A few pins on Pinterest. An occasional article shared on Facebook. But no gusto, just surviving.

Now that I’ve pointed out the lull, you may be wondering… why?

All of it can be blamed on that lovely thing know as the first trimester of pregnancy.

Can anyone relate?

Today I find myself 14 weeks along after getting an obstetrical ultrasound, and finally feeling a bit more like myself again. After all, it’s 9 am and I’m not laying on the couch with an arm flung over my head feeling sorry for myself.

A little back story on our family, we have two children, a three year old daughter and a one year old son. All three of our children (crazy to think about that) will be almost exactly 2 years apart.

10661661_794163057289233_5948911984033991895_oI’m excited about this next phase of life. As one of three children myself, it feels like a good number.

But of course, as with any huge life change there are some apprehensions as well. Very few of my friends and peers have made the leap to the third child, so I feel like a bit of a pioneer when I tend to rather blend in.

That just wasn’t God’s plan. 🙂

Do you have any advice for encouragement for me as I look forward to being a mom of three? I’d love to hear!

Congratulations! I was on a blogging/social media break last month, so I haven’t visited your blog in a while. Now that I’m back at it again, I haven’t been posting and doing as much as before for the very same reason! Life is full enough already, but I’m also expecting #5. You’re only a few weeks ahead of me. 🙂

My delightful handfuls are 7,4,2….. 2 to 3 is a big jump! But I wouldn’t change it for Anything! Yes it is exhausting, but the blessings are the sweetest!

Like when the older ones get excited when the youngest one reaches milestones! And encourages them to go on the potty, we’re working on that 🙂 Or when the older ones encourage and praise each other! Those moments are such a precious gift. As I am writing this, this verse came to mind 1 Corinthians 15:58. Praying for you that The Lord would be preparing your heart for all that is coming with your newest addition.

PS If I can encourage you and your husband to spend time with each child by themselves, it’s so much fun to have time with them one on one. Giving your undivided attention to just them and building that relationship 🙂 Just a heads up the third one might do things the older two never did! Our youngest climbed out of her crib and really wasn’t interested in baby toys. (she wanted her siblings toys) Blessings Katie 🙂

    • Thank you for the wonderful advice and encouragement! I love the verse you recommended. I’ve printed it out to memorize. I also love the idea of spending time with them individually. Thank you. 🙂

I’m a mom of nine and the hardest transition was from 2 to 3 children. Don’t be discouraged, you are young and strong and God will grow you in amazing ways with this new little one. My oldest had just turned 3 when my third child was born, crazy days! Don’t be afraid to ask for help and just be concerned with the absolute essentials when your new blessing arrives. This will be the most physically demanding time in your life, but the insanity won’t last long 🙂 My oldest three are now adults and great friends. I’m glad we had them close together (along with the 6 that followed over the next 12 yrs) Blessings!

    • Heidi, you’re amazing. Thank you so much for the encouragement! Essentials… that’s a good way to think. I’m going to reread all this advice when baby arrives just to ground myself.

I am a mom of three, 21,19 and 17 (18 in a week) Two to three is a big jump because you run out of arms and even if you and your husband take one, there is one left over! All that to say, CONGRATULATIONS! This is the greatest blessing in life! Enjoy! The days and sometimes nights are long but the years ate short. 🙂

    • Good point! I hadn’t considered the “arms” situation. Thank you so much for the encouragement and realism. 🙂 I need to get my head around this as much as possible now!

Katie – Congratulations!! What a wonderful blessing for you and your family. I’m glad the sickness is easing up for you – that’s never fun. I have no advice or tips for how to be a mom of 3, but I look forward to learning more from you as you enter this new role. This blog has been such a wonderful resource and blessing – I’m so glad God put this on your heart!
