Enjoying the “Morning Early” and the Newest Addition to My Mug Collection

Written by

As some of you may know from a previous post, I started a mug collection.

And I’m happy to report it has recently acquired it’s second mug! (aka teacup…)

A friend who knew I was looking for exceptionally cool mugs recommended I check out Anthropologie. I love their stuff! It was tough to walk away with just one, but this is to be a “curated collection,” not the entirety of one store, so I chose to use restraint.

And I found a gem.

So now, here I am, with my pretty mug and Bible enjoying the “morning early.”

“Morning early” is a catchy term from the Mother Goose rhyme “Cold and Raw the North Wind Blows,” and one I think of often during these times.

Because the morning is somehow quite poetic.

There’s something indescribably special about getting up before the rest of the house, sitting in our quiet, light-filled family room, cup of hot wonderfulness in hand, Bible open, birds chirping outside, and a marked sense of peace and newness as I sit before the Lord.

I am so thankful for every morning that goes this way. As a mom of young ones, each is a separate gift from God, not a guarantee, and they are appreciated as such.

They represent deep times in God’s presence as well as a sense of deep refreshment beyond what any extra sleep could ever provide.

So what about you? Have you discovered the beauty and glory of the “morning early?”

I know it’s not always realistic, but let me challenge you to give it a try this week.

Get up a little early, even just five minutes, and start your day with God. Read one chapter of the Bible, enjoy a cup of coffee. Pray.

And don’t forget to go to bed early.

If you do this, let me know how it goes in the comments section below!

I love getting up before the household does and savoring the sounds of those early morning hours.

I LOVE mornings, this is exactly why! I imagine when I have children, I’ll love them even more. It’s like a fairytale, being awake in the soft morning light, your mind active and (sometimes, for me :/) on God while the world rests…

Definitely somethign I need to do more!
